“Stand firm! Do not fear! See the salvation of the Lord. The Lord will fight for you, you have only to be still.” -Exodus 14:13-14
“I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
I have a place up the street where I go when I am in need of a good talk with my Father. It’s kind of tucked away down an access road and the wildflowers there are so high nobody could see me even if they did happen to crane their necks. It’s where I go when my emotions are a little high and I have things to get off my chest.
I went there a while back because I had read an article about this virus that was going to kill a huge portion of the population in a horribly painful, suffocating death. I was scared, and I needed some reassurance, from the one place I could get it, my Father in Heaven. He has a wonderful way of bringing me down off the ledge and I needed that at the time.
What He reminded me of in my time with Him there is that I am in his hands. He knows me completely. He knows the number of my days, He knows what I need, He even knows how many hairs are on my head. He also reminded me that I don’t have to fear because He is with me always. Over and over in His Word He tells us not to fear and that He is with us. The final thing He reminded me of on that day is that He is working all things out for good for me because I’m his child and I love Him. I trust Him.
From that point on I have chosen to believe He means what He says and I can rest in the peace that comes from knowing Him. I haven’t been fearful since. God is more powerful than anything that is in the world. No matter what comes, He will be with me, helping me, strengthening me, fighting for me. I can relax in the peace and hope that Jesus gives me. In fact, John says this, “…the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” He says the same thing to us.
