Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. -2 Corinthians 5:17
As I have grown in my faith I have become weird. What I mean by that is that I don’t fit in very well. When I am with my friends who are not believers I run out of things to talk about. Even when I am with my friends who are believers I don’t always hold up my end of the conversation so well. The reason is that in my heart, all I really want to talk about is Jesus.
I do not watch television (except the Baking competition shows and Star Trek) or go to the movies because I cannot stand what they depict and how they are influencing the world. I don’t read secular books, for the most part anyway, because I always seem to hear about a Christian author who has written something thought-provoking and I want to spend my time on that. I don’t go shopping because I really don’t want a bunch of stuff anymore and I don’t travel except to see my grandkids or to go on a mission trip. I don’t want to waste my time paying attention to sports (okay, Ohio State Buckeyes football excepted) or working on some hobby. Not very many people read the books that I read. I am just weird and have nothing to talk about with most people.
It used to bother me but recently I read a book by A. W. Tozer called The Crucified Life. In it, he wrote, “I suppose one of the ugliest things in all the world is a goose walking around on the earth. But one of the most graceful sights in the skies is a wild goose with its wings spread on its way south or north. I suppose we act awkward here because we belong up there.”
I realized that I am weird because I am no longer of this world. I am now a child of God, I am now a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven. I speak a different language than those who are of the kingdom of the world. Someday I will sing in harmony with the others who are with me in the Kingdom of Heaven, we will never run out of things of interest because we will share the one thing that holds our interest.
I can’t wait till I am normal with all of the other weirdos.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:2
Do you feel weird in the company of those you work with, or even with your own family because of your passion for Jesus?
Heavenly Father, thank you for making us new. I am a new creature and I am your child. Praise you Lord. Father, I pray that through your power, I will be an example to those who you’ve put in my life of one who follows obediently after her true King of kings and Lord Almighty; Jesus Christ. Jesus, I give you my life as You gave yours for me. In the Name above all names I pray. Amen
